Amy Fortune, MONROVIA, Calif.
Amy was a Johnson City native and had lived for the last twenty six years in the Los Angeles area. She received a Bachelor Arts from UT Knoxville in 1987 and a Master’s in Music (Saxophone) from the University of Southern California in 1989. She spent her early years in Los Angeles working as a professional musician, playing with groups including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra and the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra. She was also a member of the orchestra for the long running musical Phantom of the Opera at the Ahmanson Theater in downtown Los Angeles. She was most proud of her work with the Pacific Saxophone Quartet, which she founded in 1989.
Amy and Geoff opened Fortune Fencing in 2000 and began a successful career coaching the sport of Olympic fencing. Amy was a three time National Champion in Women’s Epee over-forty category and was a member of the 2011 United States World Veteran Team which competed in Porec, Croatia. Students coached by Amy have earned many local, regional and national medals.
